Merry Xmas!

Wishing everybody a very Merry Christmas and all the best in 2010! I can’t believe it is 2010 - that sounds so much like the future.

Wishing everybody a very Merry Christmas and all the best in 2010! I can’t believe it is 2010 - that sounds so much like the future.

I worked with Clean Sheet Communications to illustrate and design this homage to the classic Bicycle playing card for the Responsible Gambling Council. Woven into the design you can find six icons that may indicate you have a gambling issue. Now, put down them dice and take a look!

BIGBOX SINGSONG is going to the Ottawa International Animation Festival! Our very own Mustache Guy was selected to screen as part of the Canadian Film Showcase. If you are going to be in the Big O next week you can catch the screening at the ByTowne Cinema on Thursday October 15 at 11am or Sunday October 18 at 5pm.
Here’s a link to more info about the screening - BIGBOX SINGSONG OIAF 2009 Selection Page

I recently designed the title sequence and graphics package for the documentary Pedal Power. Here is a blurb from the producers of the doc:
“From bicycle-mad Paris to rush-hour New York and the back alleys of Toronto, Pedal Power takes a ride through the changing world of bike culture. And with exclusive background access to Igor Kenk - exclusive footage of how he operated and built a legendary reputation on Queen Street West - this major documentary explores the two-wheeled revolution in our streets.”
Catch Pedal Power on the CBC series Doc Zone on Thursday September 24 at 8pm on CBC-TV (and repeated on Friday September 25 at 10pm on CBC Newsworld).
Thanks to The Secret Location and Cogent/Benger Productions for the opportunity to work on this doc which inspired me both as a designer and a cyclist!

A little earlier this year, I had the chance to create this Peter Max/Heinz Edelmann/Psychedelic Art inspired illustration. The image was designed to be reproduced as a 10′ x 6′ installation in an office.
Thanks to Dave Kelso and Cleansheet Communications for the opportunity to work on such a unique piece.

We have a new BIGBOX SINGSONG and his name is John (and he may or may not be a leprechaun)! Either way, check him out at www.bigboxsingsong.tv
Let us know what you think and if you know someone who also may or may not be a leprechaun, pass it along!

My new portfolio website made its way onto Stash’s FEED in the THE REELS section!

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to work with Creative Director Dave Kelso to develop materials for a proposal. During the research phase we were working with ‘hive’ as a concept to describe a community with the power to change the status quo. Here are a couple JPEGs of the early design experiments.

I recently put together a micro-site for a project called More About Henry by my creative collaborator, Adam Goddard.
More About Henry is a unique musical documentary by composer and producer Adam Goddard. Adam recorded his grandfather, Henry Robert Tindale Haws and collected his stories from a long life of farming. Tales of billy goats and bulls, square dances and harmonicas, mechanization and artificial insemination are combined with Adam’s exquisite musical compositions to tell a historic, yet timeless tale of the struggles and joys of life, work and family.
The piece originally aired on CBC’s Ideas. More About Henry has been honoured with several awards including the Prix Italia, the world’s most coveted award for audio art.
You can listen to the piece at the micro-site: More About Henry

And thanks to James Roberts for his help getting BIGBOX SINGSONG on the internets.
*UPDATE* The BIGBOX SINGSONG site is now iPhone and iPod Touch friendly!
